Nanovoltmeter: Definition, Application and Calibration Method

Publish Time: 2024-01-22     Origin: Site

1.1 What Is Nanovoltmeter

Nanovoltmeter is an instrument specially used for DC low voltage measurement, which can maintain high sensitivity and accuracy as low as nV level. Compared to conventional digital voltmeters, nanovoltmeters provide accurate ultra-low voltage measurements at faster speeds, with higher input resistance and significantly improved noise performance. Nanovoltmeters are better suited for making stable, low-noise voltage measurements and for reliably and repeatably verifying low-resistance materials and devices.

1.2 Main Application of Nanovoltmeter

Based on the flexible and high-performance low-level measurement function of the nanovoltmeter, it has been widely used in the field of low-voltage output measurement of non-electrical precision sensors or sensitive components such as pressure, temperature, vibration, etc. It has been widely used in precision measurement of low-voltage control signals and precision low-voltage source calibration of aerospace and military equipment. Because nanovoltmeters are easy to use, they have gradually replaced potentiometers.

1.3 Nanovoltmeter Calibration Methods

The common methods used to calibrate the DC voltage measurement function of nanovoltmeters are as follows: Quantum voltage method, standard source method, standard voltage divider method, current-voltage conversion method. Different calibration methods use different standards to compare with the tested nanovoltmeter to obtain the measured error value. The specific comparison is as follows:

The standard source method is TUNKIA's original solution, which is the lowest cost and most convenient to operate compared to other solutions. We will introduce TUNKIA’s standard source method in detail in our next article.
